Phoenix Cyclops Joins MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as Year 1 DLC Character

At San Diego Comic-Con, Takeshi Yamanaka, producer of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, unveiled Phoenix Cyclops as the first additional character for Year 1 content. This version of Cyclops draws inspiration from his Phoenix Five incarnation, featuring a striking new look and the formidable powers of the Phoenix Force.

In MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Phoenix Cyclops will utilize powerful Optic Blasts alongside exceptional hand-to-hand combat skills. Players can expect to see how these abilities are integrated into his gameplay in future updates.

Exciting New Opening Movie

The event also showcased a new opening movie that blends the essence of classic fighting game intros with the vibrant energy of early 2000s anime. Produced by the Japanese animation studio Sanzigen, the opening features a rock-inspired theme song performed by renowned vocalists Keiko Terada and mayu. The animation aims to capture the dynamic world of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, with direction by Daisuke Suzuki, a passionate Marvel fan.

Collaboration with Insomniac Games

In a notable collaboration with Insomniac Games, players can look forward to the Wolverine Battle Reborn Suit, available for free starting September 1. This partnership has allowed for enhanced costume development, a feature that will continue to evolve in future updates.

Additionally, the Ultimate Edition of the game will include a costume inspired by the Advanced Suit 2.0 from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, emphasizing the commitment to providing players with diverse character customization options.

Open Beta Announcement

Players can participate in the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta from July 24 to July 26 on PlayStation 5 and PC. Initially featuring 15 characters, the roster has been expanded to include Green Goblin, allowing players to experience team-based battles before the official launch. This beta represents the final opportunity to play the game for free ahead of its release.

As the launch approaches, the development team will share countdown illustrations and artwork from Marvel guest artists, enhancing the anticipation for the game. Post-launch, the team plans to introduce new characters, stages, and additional content, reinforcing their commitment to ongoing support and engagement with the player community.
