Turmoil's Deeper Underground DLC Launches with New Mechanics and Challenges

Fans of the simulation game Turmoil can look forward to the release of the Deeper Underground DLC on July 14, 2026, for XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, and the Microsoft Store. This new expansion promises to deepen the gameplay experience with innovative mechanics and a more challenging campaign.

Creative director Jos Bouman shared insights into the development of the DLC, noting that the success of Turmoil has allowed the team at Gamious to explore new content. Following the base game and previous expansions, including The Heat Is On and a free multiplayer update, Deeper Underground aims to provide players with fresh challenges and opportunities.

One of the standout features of the Deeper Underground DLC is the introduction of petrol, a refined resource that players can utilize for greater profits. To succeed, players will need to gather new resources such as water, dynamite, and rubies, adding layers of strategy to the gameplay. The new campaign is designed to be more difficult, pushing players to adapt their strategies to become the most successful oil baron in the old west.

In addition to the new resources, the DLC introduces Deep Mode levels, where players must drill as deep as possible while managing limited resources. This mode diverges from the traditional gameplay, focusing solely on the act of digging without the need to store or sell oil. Bouman explained that this idea stemmed from community feedback, highlighting the developers' commitment to listening to their player base.

As for the naming of the expansions, Bouman humorously acknowledged the influence of popular music, noting that titles like The Heat Is On and Deeper Underground evoke well-known songs. While the team discussed various potential titles, gameplay mechanics ultimately guided their decisions.

Looking ahead, Bouman hinted at the possibility of more content for Turmoil, although he could not disclose specific details. He did mention that Gamious is currently developing two new strategy games, with some team members having worked on Turmoil over a decade ago.
